Binns Clock

Long, long ago, before mobile phones and people could just ring up and say “I’m on my way”, you had to actually arrange to meet and then turn up on time.

In Edinburgh that generally meant standing under Binns Clock at the West End of Princes Street, trying to keep out of the biting cold North Sea wind and attempting not to look as if you had been “stood-up”.

Binns is long gone but the clock is still there.  Frasers took over the premises in 1976, and from 1902 to 1931 it was Maule’s department store.
