Jolly Judge

Jolly Judge

In the Lawnmarket, at the top of the Royal Mile you can glimpse a small sign for the Jolly Judge pub.

Wander through the narrow close and you suddenly find yourself in James Court, a small courtyard area surrounded by 16thC tenements which typify Edinburgh Old Town architecture .

Down a couple of steps you find yourself in the Jolly Judge pub, a hideaway from the throngs of tourists on the Royal Mile.

With low ceilings and an open fireplace, this cozy bar is popular with lawyers from the nearby High Court and Sheriff Court.

Once a month the pub hosts a meeting of a local fiction writers group, who knows you maybe rubbing shoulders with the next Ian Rankin?
