Edinburgh has traditionally been a centre for brewing and it’s not short of pubs, many of which have retained their old style charms.
The Athletic Arms is a traditional corner pub situated in the Gorgie area of west Edinburgh, near Tynecastle football ground home of Heart of Midlothian Football Club.
But it’s better known locally as the Diggers – guess why?
Just behind that wall in the photo is a graveyard, one of two in the immediate area.
Yes, in between digging graves the cemetery workers would stop in for a well-earned pint.
Drinking is frowned upon during the working day now, but Diggers is still a handy stop to sup well kept real ale and a superb range of whiskies.
Check out the atmosphere and Hearts memorabilia, although its busy on match days.
